This character had many discipline problems at school and was called before the faculty. He was eventually expelled from school and sent to work at a factory with his father. While working at the factory, he steals money in order to fulfill his dream on traveling to New York City and live the life that he had always imagined. When he realized that his dream life was close to being over, he did not want to face the punishment when he returned back home so he commits suicide by jumping in front of a moving train. Comparing the short story to movie, they both are two stories with the same titles telling about a young man that felt like he did not belong in life. In both stories Paul felt that his father, his teachers, and his classmates were uncaring and did not understand him.
