That brought him to preaching the coal miners and their families. He had sympathized the working conditions these people had, and was trying to better their lives. He even was giving his clothes and food away to them. Representatives of the church didn’t like what he was doing so they dismissed him and that’s when he started drawing the people working, and their harsh conditions. He now had found his career, an artist. Things were rough for Vincent, he was studying art and painting a lot, but he started to get some mental problems, although no one knows why. One example of his rage was when he used a razor to mutilate the lower portion of his ear. After that incident he was soon put under confinement. During his stay at the asylum, he did produce his best known work, Starry Night . The Starry Night painting is most recognizable because of the unique style that he used. This painting even became a well known song. It was made while he was having many attacks, because he was in the asylum at the time. He was not allowed to see the outdoors, so that painting was done all from memory, which makes it all the more fascinating. No one knows the true meaning of the painting, there could be so much hidden behind that painting, but that’s what makes it so famous, because it can be interpreted in so many ways. One thing that is neat is that they have proved that Van Gogh painted the exact position of stars and planets on the canvas, as the moon, Venus and the constellation Aries. Which in fact was his horoscope. The spiral currents he painted could just be that he knew they are real currents that are in the universe, but we cannot see them in real life. This piece was made in mid June 1889. It was done at Saint-Remy, and was an oil on canvas. The piece was made using blues, yellows, and greens. It is a painting where theres a lot to look at. It is very detailed, with the city down below, then the mountains in the back, and the sky showing the currents and different stars. The sky is what stands out the most, when you look at this painting your eyes tend to get lost in the design of the sky.
