Mrs. Jones can easily be perceived as a big mamma figure who is concerned about the needs of Roger. Moreover, the story showed Mrs. Jones’s tough love and nourishing care. In the story, Mrs. Jones showed her tough love towards Roger by not only putting him on the spot and demanding that he gives her back her purse, but also by making him follow her home. Mrs. Jones was a complete stranger to Roger and Roger was extremely afraid, yet he obeyed her and honored her request and went to her house. When they arrived, Mrs. Jones talked to Roger, letting him know that what he did was wrong. She also assured him that all he had to do is ask for the money for his shoes. As Mrs. Jones was cooking, she turned away from Roger, leaving her purse in his grabbing distance. Instead of watching her purse she wanted to leave it next to him to show him that she does not believe that he is the type of person to steal.
