Children are our Right
...lives on a street with only one other young couple. However, even though Jessica would love to have someone nearby to play with, the other young couple are denies the right to parenthood on the basis of a below average IQ. Think of how Jessica would feel growing up on a lonely street unable to run over to the next door neighbours to play? Are you really going to deny children the right to a happy childhood? From this it is obvious that licensing parenthood would affect so many people in a negative way and therefore should not be introduced. If we were to introduce a license to parenthood, who would decide the criteria on which a license could be obtained? How can you set standards for being a parent when everyone’s standards and parenting styles are different? How can you set a criteria for parenthood? No doubt people would argue that parents who abuse their children should be denies the right to parenthood. Well we aren’t here to argue against that. However there is already a number of legal and societal organizations which already deal with these people and therefore there is no need to introduce parenthood licenses. This act was too horrid to even think about, and yet this is exactly what you are trying to do by introducing a parenthood license and denying parents the right to have children. Children are our right. Who has the right to change that? We have mentioned that more than one individual would be affected by the introduction of licenses. So wouldn’t an individuals partner also be affected? Well you may argue that healthy females could choose to be inseminated by “good stock”. Parenthood has turned into a consumer led manufacturing process where by designer babies can be made to order on the production lines of laboratories and clinics for those who can afford them. The consumers are thus encouraged to seek medical intervention to ensure quality control of their products. Now surely this isn’t what was meant by mother nature. But if we were to introduce a parenthood license this would no doubt quickly become reality. Is there such a thing as a normal family? No, each family is different and unique. So who would be unable to obtain parenthood licenses? People with disabilities? Who’s to say that disabled people are unfit to be parents/ And yet we seem to stereotype them and say that no, they shouldn’t be allowed to be parents. You may argue that if they have children, the disability will be passed ...
