When Link moves to London he meets someone called Ginger, he got to know him very well and Ginger taught him how to be more streetwise. ‘I’d found a friend and I wanted to hang on to him’ The tone of this quotation is that he is determined not to lose the one friend ha had. Link is very determined not to lose his friend because he spent so long looking for someone to hang about with during the day. I think that the author is trying to use informal text like he did earlier. I also think that he is very serious about not losing the one friend he has. Link loses his friend and wanders about for someone new to hang about with. He finds someone called Gail, he shows her how to love on the streets, as Ginger did to Link. ‘I couldn’t tear my eyes away’. When he says this he sounded like he was in love because he couldn’t stop staring at her and he had not felt this way about someone before, I think that he thought he was in love but later on he realised that it was all a scam and she was an undercover reporter. At the end of this story Link finds Shelter a serial killer who had killed seven homeless people and finds out Ginger was one of them. He also found out that Gail was not really a homeless person but an undercover news reporter. ‘Sobbing with terror I clawed myself free’.
