Death Penalty

Capital punishment, according to Amnesty International, should be abolished because there is no such thing as “equal justice for all”. The second article, by Andrew Jones, states that capital punishment is a necessity for society. Jones states that the death penalty is a matter of justice and societal preservation. However he also states that extreme caution should be used when imposing the death penalty. An ignorant prosecution could lead to a negative public perception of what Jones believes to be an integral part of the justice system. The time that people spend on death row is adequate to exhaust every legal avenue for overturning their sentences according to Jones. The two articles are similar in the fact that they agree that some people may be wrongly sentenced to death; they differ however when it comes to whether or not there should be a death penalty. I believe that people should receive a level of punishment that would be equal to their crime. I do however disagree with Jones, in the fact that there is equal protection under the law.
