A certain number of sick and vacation days are given to employees further allowing individuals to integrate everyday occurrences like getting the flu or extended events, like a cruise, alongside their job. This integration is a key component in balancing and maintaining a happy and fulfilled existence. With post-secondary education individuals learn a substantial amount about both academic and life skills. The subjects studied in classrooms throughout post-secondary education such as, biology or chemistry require an ample amount of devotion in both time and energy to learn the material. The learning of these subjects is the key to one’s education in their field of chosen study. For example, if one were to become a doctor an understanding of human anatomy would be important to ensure that when one has a career one can perform their job with the proper knowledge. Along with gaining knowledge and understanding from the classes taken, one can also gain a multitude of self skills in which are required in everyday life. An important skill, critical thinking, is one which is learned, applied, and tested throughout one’s post-secondary education and consistently used in the real world. Critical thinking is the act of engaging a subject, challenging statements, and drawing informed conclusions (Lees). This act is constantly used by individuals in many different situations, such as analyzing advertisements or understanding politics. The ability to apply skills learned such as time management, and memory techniques is important and is acquired with a post-secondary education. These skills are ones that will carry on with an individual to the workforce, and to the continuation of one’s life. In addition, social skills, key components required for one to function in society, are learned and nurtured throughout one’s post-secondary education. There is a constant interaction between students and faculty which forces individuals to learn how to communicate efficiently and effectively. Apart from interacting with professors and classmates, individuals have to learn how to give compelling presentations and maintain public speaking skills which will benefit one’s career and personal relationships.
