The protagonist, Colonel Satoris Snopes, or “Sarty,” lives with his father Abner and family. Mainly Abner directly affects the story by causing the family to move from place to place because of his arson problem. He seems to be a bit unstable and if a confrontation arises, usually the confronter will find that his barn has been burned down by crazed Abner.
