...rld and locks herself inside. She doesn’t seem to realize that years have passed and times have changed. Keeping herself inside for so many years, she doesn’t know what’s going on outside. Also, after her father died and before she gets very sick, she refuses to believe her father died. “We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, as people will”(P. 94). Miss Emily’s father keeps her away from young men probably because he doesn’t want his only daughter to get hurt. Parents keep their children sheltered because they don’t want them to experience things they may have as a child and don’t want them to get hurt. Parents want the best for their children by protecting them from real life experiences. Her father is the only man in her life and she is so attached she doesn’t want to give him up. “Then we knew that this was to be expected too; as if that quality of her father which had thwarted her woman’s life so many times had been to virulent and too furious to die”(P. 96).
