...ick Cage’s character Michael is mistaken by a bartender named Wayne for “Lyle from Dallas,” who is being offered a job for a large sum of money. Even when he finds out the job is to murder the bartender’s wife he plays along. He has no intention of actually committing the crime, and instead informs Wayne’s wife that her life may be in jeopardy. Wayne’s wife, Suzanne, in turn doubles the previous offer to kill Wayne. Michael accepts this offer, once again not intending to follow through. In Double Indemnity character Walter Neff is an insurance agent. When he travels to visit one of his clients, Mr. Dietrichson, he discovers that he is not home. Instead, he is greeted by Mr. Dietrichson’s wife Phyllis, who exclaims, "Is there anything I can do?" rather seductively. While talking to her he discovers that she would like to take out and accidental insurance policy without her husband knowing. Another major difference between the movies is that Michael does not actually follow through with his deal. He wanted the money and nothing more. The fact that he did not take the money from store. He must have felt that the money that he took would be going to a less deserving person. Even when he was leaving town and he struck Suzanne’s lover he made the right decision and took him to the hospital. Unfortunately the sheriff that responds happens to be Wayne. Wayne proceeds to take Michael out of town to execute him. Michael manages to escape and is picked up by a passing motorist. They head to the bar and Michael discovers that he is drinking with the real “Lyle from Dallas.” In Double Indemnity Walter actually commits a murder. He sets up an elaborate plan to fake an incident where Mr. Dietrichson accidentally falls off a train. In actuality Walter hid in the backseat of the Dietrichson’s car as they drove to the train. Walter reached up and strangled Mr. Dietrichson when Phyllis came to a stop. He then impersonated Mr. Dietrichson on the train and met Phyllis at a predetermined stop, where they placed Mr. Dietrichson’s body.
