...The first amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (www.firstamendmentcenter.org 8 Mar. 2004) With organizations such as the Federal Communications Commission and Clear Channel radio, government has control over what can be played on the radio, as well as local authorities censoring what can be viewed over the Internet. (www.fcc.gov/. 8 Mar. 2004) These organizations are used to control what can be shown and what can be heard to the general public. This is indeed infringing on the first amendment. I do not believe in the whole argument that it’s for the children’s best. I believe that parents should have the responsibility to control what their kids are able to see and hear, not the government. This is unfair to other Americans who can handle the information that the world puts out at them. (www.epic.org/. 8 Mar. 2004), (www.cwrl.utexas.edu/. 8 Mar. 2004) Another reason why I am against censorship is for the reason that Clear Channel makes millions off of edited and cut music that is played on the radio. Clear Channel form lists of songs that can not be played, and send out notices saying that music that is “radio friendly” can be played. With edited versions of songs to suit children better, major corporate officials as well as the artists are making profit off of duplicated music. (www.clearchannel.com. 8 Mar. 2004) Te...
