The Furies, throughout the progression of the play, display that they are really after justice and will not settle for anything less than that. Apollo on several occasions has to dismiss the Furies or hide his disgust for them. One thing we notice is that the Enumenides, during the trial of Orestes, respond by pointing out the murder was not committed against someone who was related to her by blood. So at this point we see really the sides of the “Furies” and the sides of the “Eumenides”. The Furies show more of the vengeful side where as the Eumenides show an honest side showing that they want justice served and seem to be very fair in doing so. Walker 2 Now as we look at how Athene becomes important during the change of the Furies to the Eumenides we can see this really starting to take place during the trial. The Furies really show their vengeful state in the following quote “ Here now, is the overthrow of every binding law-once his appeal, his outrage wins the day, his matricide! One act links all mankind, hand to desperate hand in bloody license. Over and over death strokes dealt by parents, mortal generations still unborn.” (Page 597 lines 507-514.)
