Anorexia and bulimia
...society sets forth. The quest for this ideal image has become so powerful that many people will do almost anything to attain it. Women are really ready to do the craziest things in order to be attractive and to fit in the norms. They are loosing the weight, start eating disorders, and even use the methods of self-starvation in order to save their perfect bodies. All that causes such illnesses: bulimia, nervosa, anorexia, brings in the symptoms of: depression and obsession. But what is it exactly nervosa and anorexia? As I have read in on-line medical dictionary it is: Anorexia Nervosa, mental illness in which a person has an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of their weight and body shape. People with this illness believe themselves to be fat even when their weight is so low that their health is in danger The authors state, that in the past two decades anorexia, nervosa and bulimia became a major health and social problems. They also state, that such problems usually appear in some certain demographic groups. Mostly among young, white, upper middle to upper class women, in modern and civilized countries. Also it happens mostly with people who involved in activities where thinness is especially prized, such as dancing, theater, and distance running I personally agree with such assumption, in my opinion those who are more on the top, who is more centered with any kind of attention, who has more opportunities, fortune and somehow less problems are starting to complicate their lifes. But I am sure that anorexia, bulimia and nervosa are mainly psychological problems and only then physical. On the other hand it might simply be an eagerness to fit in the norms and to be attractive. Authors claim that very often it is hard for sociologists to do a research on some topics, as in our case. It is due to the fact that there are always individuals who simply reject to admit their illnesses. In some cases probably not due to the fact that they are trying to hide their illnesses, but because the individual may simply not acknowledge that weight loss or restricted eating is a problem.
