Tasha is pretty immature and that is really easy to see because the narrator takes up for her and explains her actions for her. Rodney Green’s story “The Direction Opposite of Home” is presented through the second person point of view. Jones does any excellent job of doing this, because the reader can really feel his pain and humiliation, and they just instantly feel sorry for him. The narrator in this part sounds a lot smarter and mature, and that fits Rodney’s personality very well. Rodney’s story is the saddest because he isn’t accepted at school or at home. At school he is very anti-social and has almost no friends. At home his father abuses him. As a result of this, Rodney gets in the car with the killer even thought he knew exactly who it was. He wanted to get away from everything whatever the cost. Octavia’s story is told through the first person point of view. Just like the other two main characters Octavias’ got problems at both school and home. At school she is teased by other kids and called watusi. At home her own mother constantly lies to her.
