What would make people addicted to the Internet? There are three areas in which people can be caused to be addicted to the Internet, games, resources, and the online environment. There are many different types of entertainment that one can find on the Internet. One type of entertainment is games. There are two main kinds of games available, simple games that are usually for single players, and complicated games that allows multiplayer. With each single player game, there is usually a record to break. Therefore, some people will just devote their time to breaking those records. Once the record is broken, they repeat the process but with another game. With many games being on the Internet, this can last for days. Multiplayer games range from role-playing games (RPG), massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), action games, sports games, and the list goes on. However, there’s one thing that ties all the games together. The goal to level up the main character. To achieve this, people must first upgrade their weapons, skills, cars or whatever it is that they need to upgrade. This is not easy at all. Depending on the game, it could take months to level the character to the maximum. Because of this some teenagers will spend all their free time playing these games. In Hong Kong, there was a student who committed suicide because someone hacked into their game account and stole their items. This shows how he values those items, since it most likely took him a long time to collect. Family members of the victim confirmed the fact and stated that the victim spends all his free time on the Internet playing those online games. People that are addicted to playing these computer games must stop and realize that things in the games do not reflect real life. No one can cast magic spells or summon monsters to attack others. Games are just there to entertain people. After beating the game, there may be a sense of completion, but nothing more. Not only are there games available on the Internet, but there are also a lot of other resources as well. Things are just a click away. People can listen to the latest songs, watch the latest music videos, read the latest books, and even buy the latest piece of clothing online. There’s nearly no need for people to move away from the Internet anymore. Things like buying groceries, movie tickets, and even airline tickets for a vacation can be done online.
