...assuming the role of President of Yellowtail Marine, I was presented with numerous questions and problems concerning the company. This list included a venture capital opportunity in Chicago, a pending OSHA inspection, a pending EPA inspection, a manufacturing problem, boat show scheduling decisions, grieving employees, and a sales trip to Florida. With Olaf’s funeral in two days, many of the employees are still grieving. It would be irresponsible of me to author a strategic plan for the company in this environment. In addition, many of the day-to-day concerns of Yellowtail have been neglected. I strongly feel that it is in the best interests of the company that I do not fly to Florida for the sales pitch to Marschal. There are a few matters of immediate concern. I received a telephone call from Charlie Douglas, the Yard Foreman, who stated that there was a manufacturing problem. He said that there are too many air pockets forming in the fiberglass hulls of our new boats and he doesn’t know if this problem is caused by mechanical or human error. The yard manager, McPhail, is currently on vacation but it is imperative that I meet with him ASAP in order to rectify this problem. Both the EPA and OSHA have scheduled upcoming inspect...
