Beowulf Vs. Spiderman
... peace and prosperity for fifty years until one day, a fire-breathing dragon begins to torment the Geates. Although Beowulf was an elderly man, he still accepted the challenge to fight the invincible dragon. It can be clearly seen that Beowulf was an extremely courageous man and proceeded to fight evil even when he was older. Spiderman can also be considered a greatly courageous hero. After being bit by a genetically-modified spider, Peter Parker gains spider-like abilities which he uses to fight evil. In one scene of the 2002 movie Spiderman, Peter Parker accepts the test to wrestle with Bone Saw in the ring for three minutes. Bone Saw is an exceptionally muscular wrestler who no one wants to get in the ring with. Peter gets the nerve to battle with the champion thus far, and with his spider-like abilities, dominates over him and becomes the new champion. This wrestling match makes it simple to see that Peter was courageous, especially since no one else would willingly take on the challenge of fighting this powerful, muscular wrestler. At the same time of Peter Parker gaining the abilities and skills of spiders, scientist and businessman Norman Osborn was exposed to an experimental nerve gas. This gas made Norman develop an alternate personality himself; the super-strong, psychotic Green Goblin. The Green Goblin bullies the people of the town while also trying to extinguish Spiderman. Spiderman does not let the powerful Green Goblin intimidate him; he battles it out with him until finally he defeats him. These actions of Spiderman demonstrate how courageous he was. Both Beowulf and Spiderman are also considered to be caring. In the story Beowulf, Grendel, the horrible monster, terrorizes the people of Denmark, also known as the Danes, for twelve years. Beowulf, who was from Sweden, sailed all the way over to Denmark to fight Grendel and keep the Danes safe and secure. He obviously cared enough about the Danes to sail over to Denmark to kill the fearful beast. Not only did Beowulf battle with Grendel, he also fought and destroyed Grendel’s revengeful mother and a powerful fire-breathing dragon, with the help of his comrade Wiglaf, to rid the land of evil. It is apparent that he wanted to protect the Danes and make them feel safe. Likewise, Spiderman felt the need to protect the people of his town from all evil, including a classmate, Mary Jane Watson, also known as MJ. One rainy night, MJ was walking home from work when a few heinous men tried to harass her. Spiderman understand this, since being bitten by the genetically-modified spider made him develop a "spider-sense" that warns him of approaching danger. Spiderman battles with these men until finally he destroys them. This goes to show that he cares for Mary Jane and attempts to rid all evil around her. Beowulf and Spiderman both tried to fight evil around their towns, but although Beowulf and Spiderman are alike in many ways, they also differ in some, too.
