Once the other countries took control of the areas of Africa they would not directly control the areas they would hire outside companies to run them. The Europeans where looking at Africa for one reason and that was the diamond deposits and the massive wealth available to them. The Europeans used the missionary workers to get a foot into the African culture and also used the people of Africa to move them closer to their goal. The missionary workers came to reform the people and teach them to read and write and also to instill the Christian values and beliefs systems. The conversion worked on most of the people to Christianity but the Muslins did not buy into the teaching and did not convert from there beliefs.
