...ical strategy? Karl Rove—the political genius behind the last Republican campaign—has carefully helped design Bush’s image to be that of a faithful born-again Christian fundamentalist. From his days in Texas, the president has followed such a path to appeal to the millions of people who fear the Bible and wish to have unity between church and state. A conservative mind could not support such an attack on the Bible as gay marriage is, therefore the appeal to the millions of church-goers who do not want this country to go to hell! Here’s a shocker: this country will not go to hell even if gay people get married in clown-suits on top of a Disney World roller-coaster. Gay people are a minority of the population and that is, because nature has designed most people straight, so that the species may be perpetuated and we can keep polluting, looting and spitting on this planet. Worry not my friends, a couple gay people pulling out of the driveway in their pink Mercedez-Benz will not send your suburban neighborhood to the flames of Hades. Yes, their flowers may be prettier than yours and they might have a more exquisite taste in their interior decoration but that comes from a higher appreciation of life after you and your fellow straight-God-fearing-Republican-fundamentalists have chased them down and by all means attempted to ban them from the face of this country. Gay people are here to stay, they always have. They are nothing new they always have existed, but fear, persecution and many misconceptions in the form of urban myths have kept them oppressed under the bottom of society’s shoe. Times change, and just like marriage once used to only be the union between a rich landowning-white man and a woman (who became the man’s property), then it became only the union between two white people, then the union between a man and a woman. The definition of marriage is an ever-changing one and if someone says it has always remained the same they lie. We often hear arguments like “We must protect the sanctity of marriage!”.
