...s that I learned about Kentucky that I found to be quite interesting. One is that Kentucky was the 15th state to be inducted into the United States in 1792. By the time Kentucky became a state, 75,000 people had settled. Then at the beginning of the 1800’s, the population increased by almost 150,000 people. Kentucky’s official name is the Commonwealth of Kentucky, but its nickname is the “Bluegrass State”. Another example of a new fact that I learned is that Kentucky is the holding place of the World’s largest horse race called the Kentucky Derby. The race first started in 1875 on a 180-acre landscaped park in Louisville, Kentucky. The racing track is one and a half miles long. The grandstands for the derby hold an estimated 40,000 people and the park holds another 80,000 people. For years people have called this race, “The most spectacular two minutes in the entire sports world.” This race is also a statewide celebration held on the first of each May. However, the most important fact is that President Abraham Lincoln was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. To this day his cabin is still standing and it is a state tourist site. I found this ...
