...e students the understanding that there are ways in which people can help to better the lives of other people outside this country through different programs such as Interact Club. Through Interact Club I was able to understand how far a little service goes. Just sitting with a kid and talking with them gives them a feeling of importance that they may not feel when they are at home. Every year our club would go to the Concord Center downtown and gave them a Halloween party. We would dress up in costumes and set up games and bring treats so that when they got out of school they would be able to come to the Concord Center and have a good time to take their mind off the pressures of life. It was such a blessing to me to see the look of pure joy on their faces when they saw what we had done for them. They truly enjoyed the time at the party and they felt special that someone had taken the time to think of them. The club also took part in a project in which we bought Christmas presents for kids in the Middle East. We went to the store and bought several small presents for several kids. We then placed the presents in a shoe box and sent them to the kids in the hopes of making their holiday season a little bit more special this time instead of spending another year with no presents. Through the school itself and also with National Honor Society I was able to take part in tutoring the younger high school students. I was able to come in to school early or stay late and help a fellow student to better understand a subject they were struggling in but also to let them know that there are those people who care about them and care whether or not they get an education. It made me feel important to know that they looked to me not as this geek who was told to help them but a friend who wanted to help them. Through the student council I took part in what the school calls “Safe Halloween.” We decorated the hallways of the high school the students would dress up and stand outside of the classrooms so that the young kids of the community could come to a safe place to trick-or-treat. I have also taken part in adopt-a-highway in the past in which I would go out with some people from my church and clean a two mile stretch of road. I have also gone to several missions downtown to help when my church was there. The one we go to most often is the Good News Mission. ...
