The two texts I am comparing are Rabbit proof fence by Doris Pilkington and No Sugar by Jack Davis. Rabbit Proof fence tells the story of three Aboriginal girls making their way back to their home in Jigalong, Western Australia after being taken away by white authorities, this period is also known as the stolen generation. Jack Davis’ No Sugar is a play which contrasts the two cultures of Aboriginals and the colonising Anglo Australians. The Anglo Australians have the power and the Aborigines are powerless. The language of power and powerless are often side by side. The contextual elements shared between both texts are the setting, time period, the organisations that were operating; such as native reserves and missions. Other contextual elements such as characters and societal attitudes for example assimilation, legislation, education and rights.
