Globalization
...lso creates more inequality ans social exclusion within many countries. This has been seen a fact in the less developed countries that globalization doesn’t always bring wealth and happiness to its people. Capital, products such as machinery and equipment that are used in production, are an important aspect to the economy. That is a main reason why poorer nations cannot fully develop their economies in the first place. They don’t have enough capital to begin with. Another reason why most poor nations aren’t balanced in there social economy is because of social exclusion. Governments usually bring money into the economy, but it never filters down through the social classes. That is why in most countries the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. Because of this, countries have suffered the worst decline in the income of the individual. According to The World Bank, Annual Review of Development Effectiveness, Excluding China, there are 100 million more poor people than a decade ago. The problem in many countries is that most look for short-term benefits, rather than long-term benefits. This holds true for the abundance of global hunger in the world today. The first problem is that food resources are never distributed fairly. In poor countries, most of their harvests are being exported for cash, instead of being consumed by the many starving people all across the country. The harvests that aren’t exported mainly go to the wealthy class. The unequal distribution of food, has caused hungry people in the world to increase since the early 1990's. This simply shows one of the many inequalities that globalization brings to the world today. Technological advances in the fields of education and health have been a primary result of globalization. With technology increasing, people from around the world can now benefit from the same resources. Technology has made the availability of computers accessible to people from all over the world, and education has changed dramatically because of it. Children can now achieve a better education because of the resources and tools that now available to them. The most important benefit from this is the internet. From the internet, students can now take their learning to the next level. The use of the internet has also promoted distance learning to many people. This does not only benefit students, but also adults, and professionals such doctors, lawyers and scientists. They can benefit from this for research and in many other areas. Education greatly valued globalizations technological advances in the IT field, but it wasn’t the only one. The health care industry has greatly benefitted from globalization. The technological advances helped prevention and control of infectious diseases, health care provider interaction, and improved responses to outbreaks. Before the advances, transferring information of patients took as long as two weeks. Besides computers, new technologies are also being utilized in the health fields to prevent various diseases from being developed. For example, health agencies have used the satellite-bases global positioning system(GPS) to track the spread of West Nile Virus in the United States.(source) Technologies like these are helping people all over the world in trying to prevent diseases. This is also a determining factor when trying to make important health policy decisions. International travel has increased over the past decade partly because of globalization, and is believed to have played a major role in the spread of major diseases. Today, a person can carry a disease from one part of the world to another part of the world in less than thirty-six hours. In 1993, it was estimated that five-hundred million people cross international borders on airplane. By 2001, it has risen to $1.4 billion. The four main global diseases include HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, and Cholera. These diseases have the ability to be spread quickly. A recent fact shows that 45,000 Americans are infected with HIV/AIDS. In December 2001, it was estimated that 940,000 Americans were living with the disease. Globalization has affected public health in various ways. A few ways include technology and economic interdependence, the development of the global market, and disease control contributing to overpopulation. Technology and economic interdependence has forced goods and resources to move at a more rapid speed all over the world. Because of the technological advancement, many people have more freedom to do business in other parts of the world, which increases travel. Second, as market competition become more fierce, governments are compe...
