Where is the “right” and that? People's stereotypes and society's hypocritical views on same sex marriage are based mainly on people’s fear of the unknown. We, as a people, tend to fear what we do not understand. There are many homophobic individuals in today’s society who are the main cause of negative stereotypes against same sex marriage. Love holds no reason of person. If my love is for a person of my same sex there is no reason why our love should be denied the rights of that of the love of a heterosexual. Homosexuals should be able to commit their life to one person the same way as everyone else. There is no purpose to the fears of homosexuality that the people of the world have cast out on today’s society. Where is the freedom in that? Gays are still attacked and killed everyday. There is a high rate of suicide among gays and lesbians in our country. Hate propaganda still exists. We, as a people, know they are essentially the same kind of people as we are. We know they have the same types of hopes and dreams that we have. Today’s marriage is seen as a union of love between one man and one woman. But, is there not room to evaluate what love truly is? Those who say same sex marriage should not be legal are more or less attempting to recreate the meaning of love. Love has no barriers. It shows no content of color or sex. We, as people, cannot control love and it has no specific definition. Love cannot be held down; it will rise above all, through the fire, the rain and the storm, it will rise. There is a belief to most who oppose gay marriage that it is a sin to be with, less alone marriage someone of the same sex. Nevertheless, the same source [the bible] that states that homosexuality is forbidden also forbids having sex without marriage. The government cannot stop homosexuality but it can promote same sex marriage in order to save homosexuals from another sin. No matter what race you are, what sex you are, or what sex you prefer, if you were born in America you are an American and every American has the freedom of chose. We are one nation under God. We should all join hands to strive and make heaven “our” home. Some people say that same sex marriage does not sway with the traditional concept of marriage. But same-sex marriage so-called "traditional" concepts of marriage in actuality have already withheld significant change. In most modern societies, for example, married women are no longer considered the property of their husbands. Divorce is now legal and interracial marriage, which was once forridden, is now viewed no different from any other marriage. There are over 1,049 federal laws in which "rights, benefits, and priviledges are contingent on marital status. “A legal denial of rights or benefits without substantive directly contradicts the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution which provides for equal protection of all citizen across classes.” [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage] The new and recent medical breakthoughs show that a wide variey of choices are now available to same-sex couples to have bioloical children or adopt.Nevertheless, the denial of marriages to same-sex couples can have major effects not only on the adults within these families but children as well. A child should not have to grow up in a household without the protection of two parents, wheather they are of the same sex or not.
