...ored lava; it contains different varieties of igneous rocks in the Earths crust. The fourth type of lava contains large amounts of gasses such as steam and carbon dioxide. When this lava hardens, it forms rocks with many holes in them. Then holes form gas bubbles. Pumice and Scoria are igneous rock formed by this type of lava. Different types of eruptions form different types of volcanoes. In this paragraph I will be talking about the different kinds of volcanoes. There are three different types of volcanoes. Volcanoes are made mostly of cinders and other rock particles are called cinder volcanoes. These are formed from explosive eruptions. Since the material in the cinder cone is loose, the cones are not very high. Volcanoes composed as quiet lava flows are called shield volcanoes. Since it is runny the lava flows over a large area. After many eruptions, a gently sloping, dome shaped mountain is formed. Volcanoes built up of alternating layers of rock particles and lava is called composite volcanoes. During the formation of these volcanoes, a violent eruption occurs, volcanic bombs, cinders, and ash. Then a quiet eruption occurs, producing a lava flow that covers the rock particles. They are different in lots of ways but the differences are related to the temperature of the magma that supplies the volcano. The cooler it is, the less it flows. Additionally, gas bubbles cannot escape these types of volcanoes and become trapped building great pressure. These volcanoes, called strato volcanoes, and are the ones that we hear a lot about when they finally erupt; Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Fuji, and Mt. Pinatubo are strato volcanoes. These volcanoes, when they erupt, spew fine ash, the lava viscously forming volcanoes with steep sides. Those volcanoes that have hot magma let the gas escape, delaying an explosive eruption. Eruptions are characterized by free flowing lava. Such volcanoes are called shield volcanoes. Many of the Hawaiian volcanoes are of this nature. Volcanoes, such as those found in Yellowstone seem to have lasted for millions of years (however, they don't erupt very frequently). The shield volcanoes in Hawaii seem to last for 500,000 to 750,000 years. In this paragraph I will be mentioning some of the many historic volcanoes, and then a little fact about it. Some of the most historic volcanos have been Vesuvius, at Italy in 79 .A.D. which lead to the disaster at Pompeii 1906, and many other times. Tambora, at Indonesia in 1815, where about 30 and 50 cubic miles of molten and shattered rock were blown into the air. Krakatoa, near Java in 1883, where material from it was sent flying 17 mi into the atmosphere. Parícutin, at Mexico in 1943, it was the volcano that began in a cornfield. Hibok Hibok, on Camiguin Island at the Philippines in 1948, which killed 84 people. Besymianny, at Kamchatka in 1956, where 2 cubic miles of material were hurled into the air .T...
