In 2001, ebay held 42 million registered users-this was up from just 41,000 in 1996. In those five years, they were able to build a large customer base and gross billions of dollars in merchandise. This success is largely due to ebays user friendly site, customer satisfaction and the novelty of a new generation of internet users having a “retail” site. As time goes by and new competition such as Yahoo auctions, uBid, and Amazon.com auctions try to drive away users from eBay-eBay needs to remain competitive in price and bring new users to the site. Within the past year, ebay has broadened their advertising field. Television and radio commercials, internet ads and search engine results have made eBay a household name. This will inevitably bring in more registered users to buy and sell alike. My recommendation for the coming years for eBay would be to bring in more partnerships to help sellers. For example, UPS is a big shipping company in the United States, if UPS and ebay partnered to give eBay sellers a discount and a easier way to ship goods-more sellers would become ebay registered users and use ebay over other auction site...
