Since marriages were once viewed as one of the lesser evils in the middle ages, it is not very accurate to say that marriage is a sacred institution between and man and a woman. There are many benefits from the legalization of same sex marriages. If the marriages of two homosexuals were legalized, there would be less promiscuity and spread of STDs because the two could remain in a long term, monogamous relationship. Marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman. If we as a nation allow the marriage of homosexuals, we could open the door for other practices that are immoral. It could even bring on polygamy (group marriage) or even an “abolition of marriage” all together! (Kurtz) This would also weaken monogamy, therefore, violating the 10 Commandments. It goes against the Bible, which makes it immoral. It “would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity.” (CNN) It opposes one of the basic beliefs of the Bible, that being that God intended for man and woman to be together.
