edgar Allan Poe " The masque of Red Death"
...second room and windows were decorated in purple. The third room and windows were decorated green. The fourth room and windows were decorated orange. The fifth room and windows were decorated white. The sixth room and windows were decorated violet. The seventh room was decorated black and the windows were scarlet. There were tripods with fire that shined through the Stain glass windows of every room. The light from the tripods bounced light off the wall creating fire-like shadows in the seventh room. At the back wall of the seventh room there was an ebony clock with a pendulum swinging. It rang every hour stopping the party guest in their paths. The only character is Prince Prospero. His name means happiness and good fortune, which he has none in The Masque of Red Death. He tries to use happiness to shut out Death. Within in his abbey he has created a world where he has created a party for all his friends. At the party there are dancers who were “a multitude of dreams”. The party guest were there to escape the Red Death. The seven rooms are connected but separated. The number seven has a lot of meaning. The world was made in seven days, a person’s life has seven stages, and there are seven deadly sins. The seven rooms represent the seven stages of life. The rooms go from east to west. The East represents the dawn (Birth) and the west represents dusk (Death). The prince follows the masque of red death through the rooms, only to die in the seventh room. The “gigantic clock of ebony” ...
