The Ku Klux Klan, or KKK, reunited and racially harrassed African-Americans, immigrants, minority groups, and supporters of Communism. These two events contradicted each other; the United States couldn’t decide whether to embrace the changes brought by the Harlem Renaissance and the African-Americans, or resist the changes introduced by any “alien” group that wasn’t white. Another aspect that contributed to the paradox of the 1920s was the introduction of science. During this time, supporters of the evolutionary theory wanted to legally teach students this theory.
