...st friend, Heather. “Hello,” answered Heather. Rebecca replied, “Hey Heather, I was just calling to see what you were…who is that I hear in the background?….Is that Steve?….Where are you guys?” Nervously Heather managed to say, “That isn’t Steve. It’s just one of my friends.” Click. Puzzled about the telephone call Rebecca decided to take a nap to clear her mind and rest her exhausted body. Rebecca was startled from her sleep by a loud knock at the door. It was Steve. Rebecca shouted, “Steven, where have you been? I have been so worried about you!” “Becky, baby, I have had a very rough day and practice was the devil, so could you please not shout,” Steve pleaded. Rebecca replied, “I’m sorry Steve, I was just concerned, and by the way were you with Heather today?” With concern in his voice, making him sound as if he were defending himself, “What makes you think I was with Heather? I haven’t been with Heather. Why would I be with Heather?” Rebecca responded nonchalantly, “I was just wondering. Never mind.” Rebecca knew the voice she had heard belonged to Steve, but she couldn’t understand why they were trying to hide the fact that they were together. Rebecca and Steve were high school sweethearts. Steve was always the hottie on campus, even in high school, and when him and Rebecca started dating seven years ago it had caused friction between her and Heather. Heather had been jealous because she wanted Steve for herself. Rebecca was prettier and she always got all the attention. A few weeks after Steve and Rebecca started dating, Heather came to her senses. Her and Rebecca had a wonderful friendship from there on out. Steve always picked Rebecca up Tuesdays and took her to class, but on this day he told Rebecca he wasn’t able to because he had an appointment.
