The very strength of Hinduism lies in the fact that it survived thousands of years of intense prejudice, neglect, criticism, and misinterpretation from other parts of the world, especially the west. A Hindu is not an infidel, but a true believer of God, not a mere iconoclast but a true worshipper of the Universal Self in every conceivable form. Those who contradict this fundamental truth have to better examine their knowledge or their minds or both. Hinduism and Buddhism differ greatly on matters of social structure. The two religions also are alike because Hinduism omits and Buddhism emphasizes individual freedom to progress spiritually and socially in the current life. Both Hinduism and Buddhism are more philosophical than religious. Both describe an all-encompassing philosophy and define existence itself. Both religions maintain a broad perspective of religious worship. Hinduism is polytheistic while Buddhism maintains no structure belief in independence. Buddhism concentrates on the individual’s release from suffering, implying no overriding social definition.
