...destroyed by a moment of foolishness. The man had once been a millionaire. However, he was not happy with the amount of wealth he had, constantly looking for ways to increase it. So, when he heard about the amount of money one could get from buying shares, he at once used all of his money and bought lots of shares. However, lady luck was not shining on him. Within weeks of his buying of those shares, the company owning went bankrupt and his shares were forfeited. Soon, he went bankrupt and was unable to pay the debts that he owed to many creditors. Sighing, he slung the rope onto one of the branches of the tree and hung himself. The thunderstorm grew to its climax, lightning and thunder flashing and roaring in the sky as if morning the death of the man. The wind howled like wolfs and blew the man’s hat into the mansion. The next day, the corpse of the man was found. The policemen were informed and they arrived at the scene to take the corpse away. The case was quickly dismissed as suicide. However, while the police were taking the corpse away, part of the rope, which the man had used to hang himself, fell off. From then on, the mansion was widely believed to be haunted by a ghost. Many people who stayed in the mansion to avoid the rain claimed to have seen a ghost. It was also said that one could hear the ghost moaning in sorrow if they were to pass the mansion at the middle of the night. People soon avoided going near the mansion. It was a year after the unfortunate man’s death. The weather was as bad as it had been the year before. The wind howled like ghosts looking for their prey. Thunder and lightening were heard and seen every few seconds. David was on his way back to his hotel when it started to rain cats and dogs. Within seconds, David was drenched. In order to avoid the rain, David took refugee in the haunted mansion. Being a foreigner, David knew nothing about the mansion and hence had nothing to fear from. Swearing at his bad luck, David huddled in a corner and waited for the rain to stop. Hours past by slowly. The rain did not stop but became heavier instead. David’s head sank slowly into his arms and he floated into dreamland. The old grandfather clock in the mansion started to chime twelve o’clock midnight. David was awoken by the noise. Just then, a cold breeze blew its way into the mansion, filling the room with coldness and making David shiver. The wind outside howled louder then ever. An eerie sound filled the room. Being a person who did not believe in ghosts, David dismissed the sound as the wind. Right at that moment, a figure floated into the room. David felt a shiver went down his spine. The figure was pearly white and semi-transparent. It wore tattered clothes and had blood spilled onto the front of his shirt from the neck where a rope had burned into his skin. It was the ghost of the man! The ghost slowly floated towards David. David tried to move backward but found that his hands and legs were numb with fear. He opened his mouth to scream but no noise...
