The Right To Bear Arms

...t would abide by this law would be the law abiding citizens. Have you ever heard of or known a criminal that was a law abiding citizen? If he was then he wouldn’t be a criminal. If guns were taken away from every citizen it would be much easier for criminals to carry out their work because the innocent citizens that they prey upon would be defenseless. If some random guy pointed a gun at you and said he was going to kill you, would you want to have a chance to live or would you just sit there hopelessly and wait to die? I know I would want the chance to live. If guns were outlawed then no one would have that chance. Today there are many laws in which I agree with that people have to abide by in order to carry a concealed weapon. First, you have to bee 18 years or older to purchase a rifle and at least 21 to purchase a pistol. Second, you have to take a gun safety class and get a permit before you can even think about carrying a weapon in public. Also, when you go to purchase a pistol, you have to wait for a period of time so that the seller can do a back ground check on you to see if you are eligible to purchase one. These rules help to keep criminals from purchasing guns but if a criminal really wanted to get a gun he could do so very easily. There is no real way to keep criminals from purchasing a gun. Even though we have strict laws there is still a thing called the black market where criminals can buy almost any illegal thing you can imagine. The only way to protect ourselves from criminals would be to leave the law as it is and give every person (21 years or older) the right to carry a gun. I am not saying every person 21 years or older has to carry a gun. If you do not think you are responsible enough or fill frightened about carrying one then I think you shouldn’t. I just don’t agree with those people that believe our crime rate will lower if we get rid of guns period. There is a place in Georgia where people that believe we should get rid of all guns should not live. This place is called Kennesaw, Georgia. In Kennesaw, it is a law that every head of household own some type of firearm. “In 1982, Kennesaw Georgia passed a law requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in their home, exempting those with criminal records or religious objections. Yet, after the law went into effect in 1982, there have been only three murders: two with knives (1984 and 1987) and one with a firearm (1997).Seven months after it took effect, the residential burglary rate dropped 89%, vs. 10.4% statewide” (http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/kennesaw.html). Also, in Switzerland it is a law that every household have at least on machine gun with ammunition. In both Kennesaw and Switzerland, the crime rate is extremely low. This goes to show that arming innocent citizens actually decreases criminal activity. Statistics show that giving citizens the right to carry firearms actually decreases the amount of criminal activity. “Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1...
