What is Art?
..., and can not, be defined my who produced it or what it consists of. You have to dig deeper, study it and get to know it. Trying to define art as something is impossible to be. The only way I can see to do it is to define each individual piece on it’s own. But that still would only be an opinion. The best way to define art is to use what the Expression Theory states, something an artist creates based on feelings that are felt. No one creates are without first thinking about what they are going to draw, paint, sculpt etc. The artist has to sit and think of what they want their subject to be, and that of course says that what they pick they have some kind of emotions about. As said by David Hume, in order to give a "true judgment" on a piece of art you must have had experience and be in a sound state of mind, and to also be free of prejudice. When you have these things, you can freely judge a piece of art. But how can one person truly judge a piece of art? That is another question dealing with the definition of art. Personally, I don't think that anyone can judge a piece of art work unless it's the artist themselves. Being an artist, I have had many people critic my work, and most responses are negative, such as, "The color is all wrong.", "The subject's eye doesn't look human." and so on. After a while I realized that those comments don't matter even if they were from a professional art critic. All that matters, as an artist is to be able to get your emotions into any kind of art form and have it be understood by those that see it. One of the only ways people can understand your work is if they have experience. It could be any kind of experience, anywhere from someone close to you passing away or crying or getting in a fight. A viewer can take whatever they want out of a art piece ...
