Binge Drinking
...at reflect badly on the university that they attend. Statistics show that the more that a student drinks and the more often they do drink effects there grades almost directly. This is interesting because most students believe that if they just drink on the weekends it will not affect them during the school week. But in reality it can affect them in more ways than one. You will often see stories in the news about college students at fraternity parties getting wasted and their friends putting them to bed to find them the next day cold and blue. There are about one-thousand-four-hundred deaths related to alcohol, half a million injured, and about seventy thousand rape or sexual assault victims because of alcohol on college campuses. (www.abcnews) Every year there are always a few stories that make headlines about a fraternity pledge that drank too much and died. Students still go to parties and drink insane amounts of alcohol even though they hear these horrors. Although death is not a common side affect of binge drinking it is always there. Most students are naïve in thinking that accidents will never happen to them or that they know how much they can drink. Students that drink heavily during college at a very high risk of becoming full-blown alcoholics. This is a scary fact that most young people are unaware of. Also, students who drink can disturb their roommates and other students. If a student comes back to his dorm drunk or needs a ride it can get in the way of others study time or their sleeping habits. One student who drinks on the weekend can disturb up to five others. It can ruin friendships get them into trouble with the university and with their parents. Although not all drinking is harmful to students, binge drinking can be. It is fine to hang out at a party and have a beer or a cocktail to loosen up around friends. It is when it becomes a weekend ritual it can be harmful to the drinker and the people around him/her. When my friends confronted me about drinking to much I had a problem with the Amount of concern they had for me. First, of course, I have heard what they told me from my parents, television, and just from around school. I did not think that I had a problem that they should be concerned with.
