Is America in moral decline?
...d on these issues. However, I find that this is not so for most of society. For me my morals and values have come from a good stable home and my belief in God. My morality has been mainly shaped by my parents and my church. The most powerful source in the United States today is the media. The media decides what is hot, new, hip cool, and what is not. I think the United States obsession with the media has decreased our morality over the last decade. All over Television and magazines they are instilling upon us the way we should look and act. Rarely do you find a superstar who is fully clothed on the front of a magazine. The media feels that sex sells and this is the message we are portraying to our youth. Take the shows on Television for example we are telling people that it is ok for you to have sexual relations outside a marriage as long as your beautiful and do not get caught. And then we wonder why there are so many single mothers in society today, or why teens are the highest percentile of pregnancy and abortion. Look at the lyrics in our songs, artists are talking about sex, drugs, or killing the gangster. These are the messages we are preaching to our next generation. With these explicit images and example to follow, how are we supposed to expect anything good from them? I think it is more than obvious that I agree with Himmelfarb and that we have become static to deviant behavior. I can only hope that when I have children, morals and values will be important to him or her. I can only hope that in the next decade family values will become important to Americans. I believe it takes each one of us to stand up for our beliefs to make a difference. Immigration is what formed and shaped the beginnings of this country. Our four fathers intended for the United States to be a place of opportunity for everybody. However, did they intend for immigrants to come and use our thriving economy for money and then leave? Although the United States has always been known as the melting pot, should we continue to support this image or change it. Immigrants are what the United States is made up of so how can they be a threat to us? After September 11th , everybody had a different view on the opportunities we give to our immigrants. We had felt betrayed by these people who had abused the opportunity and education we had given them. What made the situation worse is that when it was all over, we only had ourselves to blame. We had taught these men how to fly planes and fight. The American dream had been abused and resulted in a bloody massacre on the civilians inside of the twin towers. Even though this devastating tragedy happened to our country, it is not the first time that a United States civilian has purposely taken innocent lives. We cannot blame it on the fact that they are a different relig...
