Throughout the entire story, Richard’s cunning use of language and his ability to manipulate people for his own personal gain create deception and death wherever he is involved. The story itself is actually pretty complex and there are many shocking twists to the plot that may polarize the audience , but it is relatively accessible for most people to grasp the basics of the story. It also like many of Shakespeare’s other plays allude to royalty and nobility and the faults that lie within these castes. Richard III is a play that also contains many historical references to the history of the English monarchy but many of these references are doctored by Shakespeare for dramatic effect. The play manages to create an atmosphere that the common person will find highly intriguing. It is an atmosphere that reeks of lies and death with a blunt sense of foreboding that is set at a very deliberate pace with very intricate dialogue between the characters. Audiences have been fascinated with the play's great central figure, the physically and morally grotesque character named Richard III, in whom Shakespeare embodied our universal fears and desires. Written as one of the most fascinating and complex villains ever put to play, Richard III is a villain that the audience loves to hate, or for some, loves to cheer for. He is such a crafty, resourceful villain that many in the audience find themselves drawn to his maniacal, twisted personality.
