The right side of the tipi belongs to woman. The space across the back, behind the fireplace was called the honor-place, for there all special guests were seated. Near the entrance, the first space to the right was for fuel and drinking water, while corresponding place on the left was for casual guest who were there for few minutes. There are also guide lines to how the woman behaviors especially in front of a special guest. When they enter the tipi they have to keep their eyes well down and observe from under the eyelid where to step. It is considered rude to step over any part of human’s body, even if your feet do not touch it. Woman cannot cross legs like men. They have to keep their skirts pulled well down over their knees. Also woman cannot recline in the presences of men, unless she is too ill to know. For Native American people families, clans and tribes are very important.
