Fahrenheit 451/Brave New World Essay

...arth during their time is being controlled by the censorship of the government, placing a mask over the eyes of the people to keep the truth about how controlled life is concealed. They believe that the world should pull off this mask and no longer have their thoughts or their actions being controlled by censorship. When they both try to spread their new beliefs, they were punished for it. Guy・s punishment is considered cruel and unusual compared to the punishment of John. John was allowed to believe what he wanted as long as he did not force the ideas on others. Guy was given two choices, either to forget all about his beliefs and continue to live life the way he did, or be destroyed. When first introduced in the book, Guy as a fireman and John on the reservation, both were well respected for what they were by only certain people. Guy, because of his job of burning books and the houses they are in, is respected by many but is also feared by many at the same time. Lenina in Brave New World also serves as a character foil, but she is there to make sure that the other characters remain happy. Lenina, being an Alpha, is made to be smarter than many other people are. Mildred is a mindless zombie who thinks that the characters in the television walls are her relatives. Each of them is an extremist when it is necessary to enforce the rules. Both Mildred and Lenina end up dead because of their choices. They thought that by interfering with the decisions of the main character, it would be helpful to the society. They now are regretting their choices one way or another. Lenina and Mildred may appear like two different people, but they are both characteristically the same. Captain Beatty and Mustapha Mond are key characters for they clarify the truth about Earth・s :hideous; past to the lead characters.
