...ght, an interview was conducted from a student that attended an all girl high school. A few questions were asked and the opinion of the student was stated, “Yes, I enjoyed my high school, I felt more comfortable at the school during class time and on campus. I was able to relate to everyone at the school since they were all girls and exhibit a proximity-seeking behavior. Everyone was able to form a special bond at the school that would not have been formed if it were a coed high school. It felt like our own “sisterhood”. It also allowed me to focus more on my schoolwork and studies, and there were not any distractions. I became more assertive in my all-female group. I was able to adapt my behavior in order to work effectively.”(Megan Hopper) From this interview, gender of peers proved to be a beneficially powerful influence on a student’s life socially and academically. A young man that also attended a same sex school was asked whether or not high school was enjoyable: “I was able to learn better because I was able to move around and perform hands-on experiments. I could also joke around with my teachers comfortably.” (Gregory Kolano) On the contrary, not everyone is a fan of same-sex schools. Some believe that kind of environment feels unnatural to them. To augment this perspective, an interview from a student was conducted. When asked if the student liked high school, it was stated that, “No, I did not like my high school. Girls weren’t very nice and there was a lot of drama being with girls all day five days a week for four years. It also made me shy towards the opposite sex, because I was not able to be around them at all in high school, except for the few social activities. There were some football games that we went to, but I really didn’t meet anyone well enough.” (Janine Maxon) Many people share this perspective of the issue. It does not prepare the students for when they enter college and are faced with people from the opposite sex. This may cause some uneasiness and nervousness. So, making these adjustments would be difficult for some students. Present research on the issue of school segregation is a popular issue.
