... Once at the hospital, she met with the triage nurse who asked her about the pain and where it was. From this prompt assessment by the triage nurse, the individual was given a bed immediately. The emergency nurse also provided an assessment over and above the one provided by the triage nurse. The individual was happy with the prompt service and felt that the appropriate questions were addressed regarding the source of her problem. When the emergency physician arrived, his assessment ordered blood work, put her on an IV, and an ultrasound to be performed on her abdomen. The compassion shown by the physician and nurses gave the individual feelings of great importance. The emergency nurse was extremely good with her pain management throughout the visit. Overall, this individuals experience in the emergency department was good. The only concern she had was with the specialist physician who interpreted her ultrasound. The individual was on pain medication which made her feel drowsy. The physician was talking to her from the end of the bed, but she would have preferred that he come closer to her so she could better understand the results. She felt the physician was in a rush and failed to show proper attention to her. This individual’s experience of the emergency department was different compared to my understanding and expectations of the health care system. I had the opportunity to visit the emergency department for severe abdominal pain also, which lasted approximately an hour. I have visited this emergency department in the past and the waiting time was not very long. My experience with this particular visit was different because they had a triage nurse now. I found that the triage nurse was very helpful and addressed my health issue promptly. Upon being called, the emergency nurse directed me to a waiting area where patients did not need a bed.
