Why the cow is a sacred animal to the Hindus
...its qualities of forbearance, meekness and the attitude of giving. At the end of these prayers, oblations are made to the lord with prayers for prosperity, success and long life. In India, cows are given free rein to move about as they please. This has led to traffic problems in some areas where these cows are parked peacefully, chewing the cud of a long snack! They are chased off with loud cries by passers by who do not resort to any violence while dealing with them. Cows, be they of all strains of genetic descent, are treated with respect and reverence. The young ones of the cows, the calves are looked after by the cow and typically have the whole community or village involved in looking after their well being. Calves are always fed before the cows are milked for milk which is used for human consumption. Cows milk is very nutritious and has within it many of the antibodies that are necessary to take care of the disease elements of the surroundings. Owing to their simple diets of grass and hay, cows are easy to maintain, with the chores of looking after them typicallly left to the village cowherd boy.
