Diagnosis. In decision recognition opportunities, problems and crises are recognised and evoke decisional activity. Opportunity decisions are evoked by a single stimulus, which in many cases is the idea, the decision can be sidelined till the time the manager is in a position to act upon the idea. A crisis appears suddenly and requires immediate attention and in many cases an immediate and fast decision. Problems decisions require multiple stimuli as the decision maker like to understand the situation before taking any decision. In diagnosis, the management seeks to understand the evoking stimuli, clarify and define the issues, and determine cause-effect relationships for the decision. Diagnosis can be an informal and an implicit routine. 2.1.2 Development phase Development is the most important phase of the decision making process. This phase comprises various activities that that lead to the formulation of one or more solutions to a problem or crisis or to the building up of an opportunity. It is this phase that consumes the maximum amount of decision making resources. Development may be described in terms of two basic routines, search and design.
