...nald Reagan was inaugurated as the 40th President of The United States of America. Also in 1981 he was attempted to be assassinated by John Hinckley who was later found insane in the trial. Ronald Reagan said to his wife, “Honey, I forgot to duck!” Sandra Day O’Conner was chosen to be the first Women supreme court justice. She had previously graduated from Stanford Law School in 1952. She was a U.S. Senator from 1969-1974 for the great state of Arizona. In 1982, Spain joined NATO( North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Madrid was an alliance member of NATO, but never had its officers sworn in until May 30th,1982. In 1983, a $189 Billion Deficit was projected for the U.S. This opened Ronald Reagan’s eyes for a new, restructured budget plan. Even though the budget was down under, The Dow Jones hit a record high 1200 Points also in 1983. The U.S. Supreme Court reanalyzed its stance on abortion in 1983. They went back to their decision in 1973(Roe vs. Wade) and they declared abortion legal. The decision in Roe v. Wade has sparked a decades-long national debate over whether abortion should be legal.
