...a weakling, because I can't even look at a shot without feeling a little nauseous. Now before the vet arrived, Caroline, the person I live with, and I had not yet eaten breakfast. We weren't that worried about it. After the vet had finished the surgery on the first victim, Brio, the horse, Madison, the vet, assigned me to be the animal recovery person. This meant, I was to hold the lead rope and help them to their feet when they recovered from the anesthesia. I also had to make sure that if they fell back down they wouldn't hit their head. After Brio, the horse, was up, he began to have little drops of blood drip from under his belly. This was not a big deal. Now, Madison, had warned me that donkeys tend to bleed a lot more than horses, because they have more fatty tissue. Boy did my next patient bleed when he recovered. Ditto, the baby donkey was the second to recover, and I don't believe I had ever seen so much blood in my life. I began to feel dizzy and nauseous. Caroline took one look at me and said " My god! Carrie, your ghost white!" She said that she would take over for me when the third patient was ready to recover. Well, she didn't make it long. She took one look at the incision and had to leave. She became physically ill. She went to the house to fetch her son Clayton. Clayton came down to take over the last animal, Strut, the donkey. Clayton stood there for almost a half hour before Strut came to. Once Strut came to, and stood, and bucket of blood fell from under his belly. Caroline lost it again, and I grew dizzy and weak again. Clayton none of that. All he said was, "Mom, I'm goin' down!" and Plop! He was down and out for about 20 seconds. Once he got back to his feet he collapsed again, and was unconscious for about 20 minutes, and became physically ill once he awoke. During the time that Clayton was out, I will never forget this, Caroline said "Well, I guess we know who the stronger sex is." With a laugh, all three of us headed up to the house.
