The whole story employed an objective third person narration with which the author simply presented the whole story to the readers and revealed no partiality or preference to the characters. The whole story, from Luz and the soldier¡¯s acquaintance to their mutual affection, from their feverish missing each other to their reckless departure, folded like a simmering pot of tea. ... Undoubtedly, Hemingway had, through this seemingly daily romance story, succeeded revealing how recklessly and restlessly the war had destroyed the world and how mercilessly an individual had been defeated in the huge monster of war.
