...with bertrande that it was unjust for his father to hit him. However we must understand that the nature of justices then are different from todays. Their patriarchal systems requires that all must obey without question, the laws for their safety and prosperity. In this instance Legal justice seems to be fulfill yet moral justice is not archieved. Bertrande also faced with the shades of justice presented in the novel. She is the very model of a good wife yet she is judged to have dishounoured her husband.she falls victim to moral, religious and legal injustice. In the novel after martins disappearance a man of exact appearances appears and assume martins role. Bertrande due to the patriachal system is forced to accept this man into her home,life and herself. As the novel progresses fears surfaces, whether this is the real martin guerre."But as time went on she found herself more and more surely faced with the obligation of admitting herself to be hopelessly insane or of confessing that she was consciously accepting as her husband a man whom she believes to be an impostor".Bertrande finds herself battling with her religious and moral values when she comes to realise the man is not the real martin guerre. she is torn between her religion and her love ones. Whether she should live in sin for her love ones happiness or expose him and watch sorrow consume her love ones. The impostor, Arnaud De Tihlcertainly has comitted many crimes and according to the letter of the law he was legally punished. However for 3 years he has been a caring, hard working person who brought love and prosperity to his mesnie. Morally he did not deserve this punishment. futhermore he knew he endanger bertrande's soul yet he was still prepared to let her stay in her perilous state.therefore in religiuos terms he did not deserve moral justice. we are also led to believed that arnaud loved bertrande and his final actions does suggests this.
