Macbeth Critical Lens essay

... The play starts out with Macbeth winning a battle and then being proclaimed the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth gets power hungry and with a little push from his wife and the three witches he plans to murder King Duncan and become king. His wife persuades him by insulting his manhood and this seems to be a recurring theme since she does it throughout the play. The witches in a way tempt him by telling him that he will become a king in the future. Since he believed the witches word for word, he went on and tried to achieve his destiny and this is where Macbeth screwed up. Macbeth ends up killing King Duncan because of temptation, curiosity, and hunger for power. However he failed to realize the consequences of his actions which would lead to his downfall. Macbeth becomes unstable because of his guilty conscious. He starts acting peculiar and makes every other character in the play wonder that something is going on. Macbeth thinks he sees King Duncan’s ghost sitting in his chair at a dinner and this is when people start ...
