America Needs Leaders

In our most recent selection “The Communist Manifesto” we can see a glimpse into one of the most renowned idealists ever: Karl Marx. His ability to ‘stick to his guns’ regardless of the outcome, won him millions of people to his cause. Even though he said that at his death, that people would relate him as “...the best hated and most calumniated man of his own time,” he still made millions believers of a simple idea. An idea, a way of life that would surely lead to madness (Staples 226) which even Galileo felt would be extremely hard to attain. These men are not the only ones; we can find many more throughout history: Newton who taught us about gravity, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry who helped to found our country, and Einstein who revolutionized the way we look at the universe. The point however is to not hold these people in esteem, we have to find how they relate to our society and our time. Who today professes any kind of ideal which they are willing to fight and die for. Some may think politicians bring this kind of faith with their ideas, their promises for a better America. However, we can all see through their lies, deep inside we see the people simply trying to help their self and masking it with their so-called desire to further America. The only political system that seems to be formed of idealist is not real. In fact, it’s the mythical one presented to us in Sir Thomas Moore’s “Utopia.” The Utopians, not out to advance their individual causes, instead they thought the way a family should. Everything they did was for the advance of their society as a whole; they have made this the ideal example of a social community.
