Obviously, in some parents’ minds, their children are not firstly considered as human beings but as their private properties. So they think they have the right to dispose of their children in any way they like. They believe that they can keep their dignity by retreating behind an unreasonable authoritarian attitude; in fact they did nothing of the kind, but children are then too cowed to let them know how they really feel. Other parents discipline their children harshly because they have too high expectation for the children. They never realize that disillusionment with the children, however good and adequate they may be both as children and as individuals, is to some degree inevitable. More punishments cannot help the children to achieve their aims but to drive the children into opposition by resenting and resisting it. It is not a right way, however, to let a child to grow up totally in freedom. For some people, who claim that parents are being too permissive of their children’s negative behavior, believe that the increase of youth crime rate in recent years is the result of allowing the youngsters to follow their own pathways completely.
